It was a clear indicator to me that we were being warned to get back to business as usual and to stop mucking about in the process.

I also welcome a State takeover. There's a small chance that the resulting reorganising mess will finally uncover the thoroughly corrupted and flagrantly wasteful culture inside MCS administration.

We've had signs of it for years, but the MCS has been very good at closing off any deeper investigations. I had hoped that the Central Nutrition Center mess -- which uncovered all sorts of problems that pointed to other problems demanding investigation -- would be the catalyst, but it all seems to have been blown past.

When the CNC report kept pointing back to Mike Goar's fingerprints on all sorts of attempted and actual cover-ups, that should have been red meat to the media, but they let it all lapse, too.

That's what I fear if the State takes over -- not investigations but endless blocking and coverup by the State Dept. of Education and the TEA. And a new system that looks too much and acts too much like the old one.Michael Roy Hollihanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15275044959782899550noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12509286.post-90982630898532143742008-07-14T12:24:00.000-05:002008-07-14T12:24:00.000-05:00Smart City, you are a visionary. Could go either way.
Still too many at risk schools and not enough desirable schools. There are maybe 5 good out of around 120 schools. Abysmal.
It's going to be a matter of getting the culture shifted and getting the money people to back that process. Trying to make it better by throwing more programs at the students instead of the staff, admin, and boards, has done nothing good.
Wrong target.Zippy the giverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07670742278387967862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12509286.post-41195410186022956472008-07-14T00:24:00.000-05:002008-07-14T00:24:00.000-05:00Nashville is where the Gov. lives, so, there won't...Nashville is where the Gov. lives, so, there won't be any hesitation to partner up there.
Memphis is becoming a place where no one wants to live, people are leaving and about 3000 students leave the public system each year speaking of a census decline, not graduation.
What's ailing Memphis City Schools is it's corporate culture, no one is empowered to make a real positive substantive change for the better.
Every department that smells a victory for some other department quickly sabotages that success with a plethora of problems. Then when all the problems get mentioned at once we are supposed to think that there is no way to win and hold no one accountable or culpable and settle for a handful of cliche's and buzzwords. Then there are those truly weird clandestine things at the FedEx Forum they aren't allowed to speak about. Talk about broadcasting the future and a total lack of transparency.
Well, people at MCS are both accountable and culpable wether they like it or not.
If somethng isn't done imediatley to get a handle on this by a qualified outside company then we should begin using instruments of law to begin the weeding out process.Zippy the giverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07670742278387967862noreply@blogger.com
