At this point, she's largely the capture point for the the anti-Herenton voters, but as she shifts from just being against someone and has to define her actual agenda, the percentage will likely shrink.

Great insights on the prospects of the Ford dressing-down becoming a seminal event for her as well as her passing on the Joseph Lee resolution. She immediately became just as calculating as the people she often criticizes, and she cannot afford for her "brand" to be diminished in this way.

We'll be watching for rumbling about a people's convention.Smart City Consultinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13985783340016474051noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12509286.post-48676983254933756662007-04-19T14:37:00.000-05:002007-04-19T14:37:00.000-05:00Good analysis. Richard Fields was apparently talking up Karl Schledwitz' poll and not one of his own. Correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Second, I don't think Schledwitz has made public any of his poll data, so we only had his word for it. It turns out he was right, but folks pimping him before there was public confirmation were merely helping Chumney's campaign PR.

I've kinda looked at the data from the 4/9 CA poll but haven't studied it yet. It does seem to show that Chumney's support is pretty soft. It seems some portion of her vote is just anti-Herenton voters settling on her, and not real supporters.

I think Chumney's campaign hit a bad stumbling block with her votes last week and then her just sitting there as Ed Ford berated her. I don't think it's fatal, but it's something she'll have to overcome.

As I told someone else, every politician and public figure has their moment when they are caught unprepared. When something happens for which they must rely on their gut and character and don't have time to think. It is revelatory because we see the true person. For George Bush, it was 9/11. For Bob Corker, it was Ford's airfield ambush. For Dan Quayle, it was his debate with Bentsen. ("You, sir, are no John Kennedy.") And for Carol Chumney, it was that City Council meeting.

Like you pointed out, the more the merrier for Herenton. I'm curious to see if we get another "people's convention" this summer, to thin the herd. It would be delicious irony if the tool that brought him into office is the vehicle by which he is run out.Michael Roy Hollihanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15275044959782899550noreply@blogger.com
